PLANTAIN DESSERT

I got this recipe thanks to my aunt who lives in Panama. Bananas are a popular ingredient in many dishes and desserts there. Before using bananas in dessert, wait a few days for them to mature and turn yellow (approximately 3 days).

Ingredients:

  • 3 ripe (yellow) plantains
  • 1 cinnamon bark
  • 2 tbsp of date syrup
  • 2 tbsp of brown sugar
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 anise
  • pinch of salt
  • oil for frying
  • 250 ml of water

Instructions:

  1. Peel and cut the bananas in half and the halves diagonally.
  2. Prepare two pans.
  3. Pour oil into one and fry the sliced plantains for about 3 minutes, turning them over occasionally.
  4. Pour water into the second pan. Add cinnamon bark, date syrup, brown sugar, vanilla sugar, cloves, anise and a pinch of salt.
  5. Cook this mixture until the bananas are fried.
  6. Put the fried bananas in a saucepan of water and cook until almost all the liquid has evaporated and the bananas are shiny and brown.
  7. Plantain serve with sauce (liquid) from the pan.
